Prestatyn punches above its weight in sport for a town of its size. Football, sailing, golf, and the walking and running events centred on Offa's Dyke and the Clwydian hills — the town has a more varied sporting life than the visitor economy usually reflects.
Football
Prestatyn Town FC (the Seasiders) have been the main football club since 1910. Currently competing in the Ardal NW League (second tier of Welsh football), the club maintains a good community profile. Golf
Prestatyn Golf Club is one of the better known clubs on the North Wales coast, with a links-adjacent course that takes advantage of the coastal terrain. The course is noted for its challenging par and its sea views. Several other courses are accessible within thirty minutes' drive.
Sailing
Prestatyn Sailing Club at Barkby Beach provides the focus for competitive and recreational sailing on this stretch of coast. Club racing takes place regularly; visitors are generally welcomed for open events. The Dee Estuary is unusual sailing territory — tidal, shallow, and requiring local knowledge — which gives the club's members expertise that's harder to find at more straightforward sea sailing venues.
Walking and Running
The Prestatyn Walking Festival provides an annual focus for the town's walking community and attracts runners and trail athletes alongside walkers. Fell running events on Prestatyn Hillside and the Clwydian Range are a regular presence in the regional running calendar. The Offa's Dyke Path is occasionally used as a running route end-to-end — the record for running the full 177 miles is measured in days rather than weeks for the fastest competitors.
Cycling
The Dyserth Walkway serves cyclists as a traffic-free route out of town. The Vale of Clwyd to the south provides quiet road cycling in pleasant landscape. The Clwydian hills offer mountain biking for those willing to push their bikes uphill; the descents are correspondingly excellent. Prestatyn is not a major cycling destination but has the infrastructure to support a cycle-based visit.
