Prestatyn Walking Festival

The Prestatyn Walking Festival is the town's most significant annual event and one of the most accessible walking festivals in North Wales. It draws walkers from across the UK for a programme of guided and self-guided routes using Prestatyn's exceptional walking territory — Offa's Dyke Path, the Clwydian Range, the hillside SSSI, and the coastal routes to Talacre and Gronant.

What to Expect

The festival typically runs over several days in late summer or early autumn, with a programme covering the full range of walking ability. Easy coastal walks of two to four miles are available for families or those new to walking; moderate half-day routes on Prestatyn Hillside and the lower Clwydian foothills suit the majority of participants; and full-day ridge routes — the Clwydian Ridge from Prestatyn to Moel Famau, for example, or a long stage of Offa's Dyke — are available for experienced walkers who want a genuine day in the hills.

Guided walks are led by experienced local leaders who know the terrain and its history. This is particularly valuable for the less-visited routes: the guided walk to the Gronant little tern colony during nesting season gives access and context that independent visiting cannot provide.

The festival uses the proximity of Offa's Dyke Path's northern terminus as a focus. Guided Day 1 walks — from the Central Beach stone to Rhuallt or beyond — are a staple of the programme, and the festival regularly hosts talks on the history and ecology of the path.
