Prestatyn's accommodation picture is more limited than it was before the Pontins closure in 2023, which removed the town's largest single source of visitor beds. What remains is a scatter of B&Bs, guesthouses, a small number of hotels, and the caravan and camping sites on the town's edges. For Offa's Dyke walkers in particular, options fill up quickly in season.
B&Bs and Guesthouses
Prestatyn has a reasonable supply of B&Bs and small guesthouses, particularly on and near the seafront. These are the primary accommodation type for walking visitors and are generally accustomed to early starts, muddy boots, and the particular needs of long-distance walkers. A number explicitly cater for Offa's Dyke walkers and can provide secure storage for bikes or packed lunches. Book ahead in summer and during the walking festival period.
Hotels
The Beaches Hotel & Spa at Barkby Beach is Prestatyn's most notable hotel option — it has sea views, a spa, and positions itself at the quality end of the local market. It serves food to non-residents, which makes it useful even for those staying elsewhere. Other hotels are modest in size and ambition, which is typical for a town of this size.
Self-Catering
Self-catering cottages and apartments are available in and around Prestatyn through the standard national booking platforms. The town and its immediately surrounding area have a reasonable supply. For a family visit of more than a couple of nights, self-catering provides the flexibility that B&Bs cannot, particularly given the limited evening restaurant options out of season.
Caravan and Camping
Caravan parks cluster in the Gronant area west of Prestatyn and along the coast towards Rhyl. These range from small, simple sites to larger holiday parks with facilities. For visitors happy in a caravan or campervan, this end of the North Wales coast has a good supply and the beach access is excellent. See the dedicated Caravan Parks page for more detail.
The Pontins Gap
The closure of Pontins Prestatyn Sands in November 2023 removed several hundred beds from the town's accommodation inventory. The gap is not yet filled. During the peak summer period and during walking events, available accommodation fills quickly; the advice to book ahead is more pressing than it would have been five years ago.
