For Families

For Families

Prestatyn has a decent offer for families — better than its profile suggests. The Nova Centre provides reliable indoor entertainment, Central Beach is genuinely good, and the scale of the town means that getting from one thing to another is never an ordeal. It is not a theme park destination, but as a base for a family beach holiday it is honest and functional.

The Nova Centre

The Nova Centre is the foundation of a Prestatyn family day. The Pirate Ship indoor adventure playground — four storeys, toddler soft play, slides, and the physical chaos that children require — is particularly good for the 3-12 age range. The swimming pool provides the wet activity. The sea-view restaurant solves the feeding problem. On a rainy Welsh coast day, the Nova Centre is exactly what a leisure complex should be.

The Beach

Central Beach with lifeguards, a play area, accessible facilities, and the option to disappear children into the sand for several hours. The sand is good, the beach is wide at low tide, and the walk to the Offa's Dyke stone gives older children something to aim at. Keep an eye on the tide — the beach widens dramatically at low water and the safe paddling area changes accordingly.

Dyserth Waterfall Walk

The 2.5-mile Dyserth Walkway is excellent for families: flat, surfaced, traffic-free, interesting enough without being demanding. The waterfall at the end provides the destination satisfaction that makes children walk without complaint. The round trip (five miles total) is manageable for most school-age children if you have time; taxi one way is an option if legs fail.

Children's Play Areas

There are outdoor play areas adjacent to Central Beach and at the Marine Lake equivalent in the town's park areas. These are council-maintained and in reasonable condition. Free and useful for the pre-swimming energy burn.

Practical Family Notes

Prestatyn is compact enough that a family with a pushchair can manage most of the town on foot. The Dyserth Walkway is surfaced and genuinely pushchair-accessible. The beach has level access from the car parks. The town centre is flat. For families with young children who need beach access without complexity, this combination of compactness and accessibility is worth more than a longer list of attractions.
