Prestatyn is one of the cheaper places to have a decent time on the North Wales coast. The beaches are free. The hillside walk costs nothing. The Dyserth Waterfall is free. Fish and chips can be had for under a tenner. A North Wales seaside holiday on a limited budget is considerably more achievable here than in Llandudno.
Free Things
The Central Beach: free. Barkby Beach: free. The Offa's Dyke Path northern terminus stone: free. Prestatyn Hillside walk to the viewpoint: free. The Dyserth Walkway: free. Dyserth Waterfall: free. The Roman baths: free. The Gronant Dunes coastal walk: free. Talacre Beach and the lighthouse view: free.
There is an argument that Prestatyn's best day out costs nothing at all: walk the hillside in the morning, eat a packed lunch on the summit, descend to the beach for the afternoon, fish and chips for dinner. Total cost excluding accommodation: around £15 for two people. This is a genuine day out, not a compromise.
Paid Attractions
The Nova Centre charges for the pool and the Pirate Ship adventure play. Sessions are priced in the range you'd expect from a well-maintained leisure centre — check novaprestatyn.co.uk for current pricing. Prestatyn Town FC matches have a modest admission charge. That is roughly the extent of the paid attraction offer.
Eating on a Budget
Fish and chips from a High Street chippy: £8-12 for a full meal. Wetherspoons (The Parsons Collar): full pub meal for under £12. Sandwich and a flask of tea from home or the Co-op: under £5. The supermarkets (Morrisons, Aldi) are useful for self-catering. The Nova restaurant is mid-market rather than budget, but justified by the sea view.
Accommodation
B&Bs in Prestatyn are among the more affordable on the North Wales coast. Self-catering is available at budget-friendly rates in the caravan parks west of town. Prestatyn is consistently cheaper than Llandudno for equivalent accommodation and offers genuinely comparable (in some cases superior) beach and walking access.
