Prestatyn is a compact town and the main things you'll want to do are within walking distance of each other. The High Street, the beach, the Nova Centre, and the railway station are all within fifteen minutes on foot. For day trips, a car is useful; for the town itself, not essential.
On Foot
Walking is the natural way to get around Prestatyn. The town centre to the beach takes ten to fifteen minutes; the beach to the Roman baths takes twenty minutes; the High Street to the start of Prestatyn Hillside takes twenty minutes. The Dyserth Walkway is entirely on foot and leaves from the town centre. For anyone staying in the central town, a car is almost unnecessary for the Prestatyn-specific attractions.
By Bus
Local bus services connect Prestatyn with Rhyl to the west (Route 11/11A, approximately every 30 minutes) and with Dyserth, St Asaph, and Denbigh to the south. The bus station is on the High Street. For Rhyl day trips without a car, the bus is the practical option and takes about 20 minutes. Check TrawsCymru and Arriva Wales/Transport for Wales for current timetables.
By Car
Within the town, a car is more hindrance than help — parking can be tight on the seafront in summer and the distances are small. For day trips to Rhuddlan Castle, Bodelwyddan, the Clwydian Range, or Talacre, a car is strongly recommended. The A55 is immediately accessible and makes the wider region straightforward to explore.
Cycling
The Dyserth Walkway is a designated shared path for pedestrians and cyclists. The seafront promenade is cyclable outside peak hours. The Clwydian hills offer off-road mountain biking. For road cycling, the Vale of Clwyd to the south provides pleasant low-traffic lanes. Bike hire is not widely available in Prestatyn itself; bringing your own is the safer option.
Taxis
Several local taxi firms operate in Prestatyn. They are useful for the Dyserth end of the walkway if you want a one-way walk (walk out, taxi back) or for late-evening returns from Rhyl or other nearby venues. Ask at your accommodation for recommended local operators.
